Gloria’s Bathers on display in Seattle

The Alcaufar bathers, created by Gloria Esbert, have travelled to Seattle in Washington State. They are exhibited at Spectrum Fine Art, a contemporary art gallery located in the heart of the city. This new cultural space was created a year ago by Jessica Catlin and Leah Steen.

Gloria says, “I was lucky enough to meet Jessica last August. She found out about my work in a gallery in Mahón and after following me through Instagram, she contacted me and visited my modest workshop in the town of Sant Lluis. She fell in love instantly! She fell in love with my paper sculptures, with their delicacy and the tenderness they awaken when she looks at them… Universal feelings, always recurrent in my work, which I try to capture with paper, putty, acrylics and collage.

“Bathers have been one of my great sources of inspiration, hence the name of the collection. They symbolise the women in my life, my grandmother, my mother… and they also represent many other women, mothers and grandmothers across the Globe – from Menorca to Seattle.

“My small works of art have had the good fortune to meet wonderful people who have taken them home and where they feel appreciated and loved. Some of them are the result of very special personal commissions made by dear people who discovered me through Roqueta magazine, for which I am very grateful. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.”
