SPONGE HUNTING IN MENORCA
I was standing in the shade at Cala Blanca dive centre one day last August when a girl ambled in to ask if we could take her diving on a coral reef. I explained that we didn’t have many big reef-building corals in the Med, but that we did have little cup corals that were very beautiful. She wrinkled here nose, “What about the sharks?” We overfished them all. “Turtles?” I found a dead one once. “Humph!” She rolled her eyes and turned tail.
